What started with a passion for design turned into a new age jewellery business backed by a legacy gold company.
Namita Kothari, a Mumbai based entrepreneur, began her career as a preschool educator before moving to London to study etiquette and grooming. She later explored entrepreneurship through her own book and toy library.
Her interest in jewellery and design eventually led her towards the lab-grown diamond industry. After training in gemology, she identified a major challenge in the market: customers wanted more clarity and trust around authenticity, pricing and resale value.
That insight led to the creation of Akoirah, a lab-grown diamond jewellery brand built around modern designs and consumer-focused offerings.
The business received a major boost when Augmont invested ₹100 crore, helping launch Akoirah in October 2023. Its first store opened in Pune.
Today, Akoirah offers jewellery starting from around ₹10,000, covering rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces and other pieces. The brand has expanded to two physical stores in Mumbai and Pune.
The company has also set an ambitious target of reaching 100 stores across India’s metropolitan cities over the next three years.
The bigger idea is simple: make diamond jewellery more accessible while building trust around lab grown diamonds.
A story of how education, curiosity, design and entrepreneurship can come together to create a new business.
