From Bharatpur to Harvard to ₹300 Crore ARR: How She Built Open Secret by Reinventing India’s Favourite Snacks: The Story of Ahana Gautam

What if the snacks we grew up eating could be made healthier without losing their taste?

That question became the foundation of Open Secret, founded by Ahana Gautam, an entrepreneur who turned her personal experiences into a fast-growing food brand.

Raised by her mother in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, Ahana worked hard to build her career. She studied chemical engineering at IIT Bombay, gained experience at Procter & Gamble, and later earned an MBA from Harvard Business School. Despite building a successful career abroad, she returned to India with a bigger purpose.

Her inspiration came from everyday Indian snacks like biscuits and bhujia. After seeing how food habits affected people close to her, she recognised an opportunity to make familiar snacks better without taking away the joy of eating them.

In 2020, Ahana launched Open Secret with support from her mother, who contributed ₹2 lakh to help start the business.

Instead of creating another protein bar, she focused on products Indian families already loved. The brand makes snacks without maida, palm oil, trans fats, artificial preservatives and artificial colours.

But building a food startup was not easy. From dealing with factory challenges to personally carrying her home refrigerator to the factory when its fridge broke down, Ahana showed the determination needed to turn an idea into a business.

Today, Open Secret is approaching ₹300 crore in annual recurring revenue (ARR), according to Ahana and achieved EBITDA breakeven in FY26. The company aims to reach ₹1,000 crore in the next two to three years.

Her journey shows that successful businesses do not always need to create something entirely new. Sometimes, the biggest opportunity lies in improving the everyday products people already love.

Ahana Gautam’s story is a reminder that a simple idea, backed by purpose, persistence and a deep understanding of customers, can grow into a remarkable business.
